Kanas City Royals Salute to the Negro Leagues

1:00 PM - 4:00 PM CDT

Kauffman Stadium
One Royal Way
Kansas City, MO 64129

EVENT DETAILS

The Royals will host the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, July 28th for our annual Salute to the Negro Leagues game. We’ll play some ball and raise awareness and funds for the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum here in Kansas City. To honor the 100th Anniversary of the first Negro League World Series, both the Royals and the Cubs will wear custom hats. The Royals will wear 1924 Kansas City Monarchs hats with a 100th Anniversary Negro League World Series patch, and the Cubs’ hats will feature a Buck O’Neil 1962 autograph patch. Starting that day, game-used hats will be auctioned off at royals.com/auction and cubs.com/auction. Net auction proceeds will directly benefit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

The first 10,000 fans through the gates will receive a Monarchs hat. All gates will open at 11:30 a.m.

About the NLBM

The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum (NLBM) is the world’s only museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich history of African-American baseball and its impact on the social advancement of America. The privately funded, 501 c3, not-for-profit organization was established in 1990 and is in the heart of Kansas City, Missouri’s Historic 18th & Vine Jazz District. The NLBM operates two blocks from the Paseo YMCA where Andrew “Rube” Foster established the Negro National League in 1920.
